Frequently Asked Questions
Do you only work with new moms?
Nope! I work with moms in all stages of their parenthood journey. Some of my clients are expecting or new moms navigating the transition into motherhood or being a mom to multiple kids. However, others are moms of older kids and teens or moms navigating the transition to the life of an empty nester. I previously worked with teenagers and have a particular soft spot for moms of teens, but I work with moms in all stages.
Do you only work with moms who work outside the home?
No. A lot of my clients are moms who also have a career outside of the home, but I also work with stay-at-home moms and moms on family leave.
Do you only work with cis-gender, heteronormative moms?
Definitely not. I work with clients across a wide range of identities and family structures, including gender nonconforming individuals, single parents, and parents in diverse relationship structures. If you do not identify with the term “mom”, please let me know your preferred term and I will gladly use it in all of our interactions.
What is Telehealth?
I offer services by face-to-face video call using HIPAA compliant video conferencing so that our sessions are secure and the communication feels similar to face-to-face interaction. You will need a device (ideally a laptop, tablet, etc.), a strong internet connection, and a private space. You should plan to be on video for all sessions. During our sessions, you must be physically present in the state of NC where I am licensed to practice psychology.
Telehealth Tips
Ensure that you are in a space that is private so you will be able to remain focused and uninterrupted for the full session time.
Ensure a stable internet connection (strong enough to stream Netflix) so that we can be on video with one another.
Plan to be on video for all sessions - it really does make a difference.
Have tissues available. If we were in person, I would have them out for you!
Block 5-10 minutes for yourself after the session ends so that you have time to process, decompress, and transition before pivoting into your work or family life.
What is walk-and-talk therapy? What are the potential benefits?
Walk-and-talk therapy offers a flexible, movement-based alternative to traditional office sessions, with several potential benefits for both mental and physical well-being. Being outdoors and physically active can help reduce stress, improve mood, and support emotion regulation. Some clients find that walking side-by-side (rather than sitting face-to-face) feels less intense, which can make it easier to open up and discuss difficult topics. The rhythm of walking can also support mindfulness, processing and reflection. Additionally, incorporating gentle movement into therapy may be especially appealing for clients who feel restless, stuck, or fatigued in more traditional settings. While it’s not the right fit for everyone, walk-and-talk therapy can be a valuable option for clients seeking a more relaxed and holistic therapeutic experience. If you’re interested in walk-and-talk therapy, we can discuss this during your 15-minute consultation call. All clients must complete a formal intake session via telehealth prior to beginning walk-and-talk therapy. Please note that these sessions are not covered by insurance and are billed as private pay only ($140/session).
How often will we meet?
Treatment plans vary for each client and will be developed collaboratively, but people generally benefit most from weekly sessions at first followed by a transition to every other week or monthly.
What should I expect from my consultation call?
If you think I may be a good fit, I would love to connect with you for a free 15-minute consultation. During this time we will briefly discuss your needs, my approach, and answer any questions you may have about therapy or me. If it feels like a good fit, we can go ahead and schedule your first full session. I prefer to conduct consultations via video so that we can meet face-to-face, but these calls can be done via phone if that is preferable.
What should I expect from therapy?
In our early sessions, we’ll take time to understand what’s bringing you in, what feels most overwhelming right now, and what you’d like to change. Together, we’ll identify meaningful goals and build a plan that fits your life and capacity, including how often we meet and how we approach our work. I aim to create a collaborative space where you feel supported, understood, and comfortable moving at a pace that works for you.
I’m interested! What now?
The first step in getting started is booking a consultation call. Consultation calls are free, take 15 minutes, and provide an opportunity to ask one another questions and to establish whether or not we are a good fit to work together. I prefer to do consultations via video so that we can meet face-to-face, but we can meet via phone if you prefer. By the end of the consultation, we can determine whether or not to schedule an appointment for our first session.
